I need to fix what appears to be an incomplete install of mamp-0.9.4, but I think I need to actually start with a much more simple question. Where is the log file for the install process? I am running a clean install of os x 10.4.11 with all the updates on a powermac g4-400 with lots of HDD space and plenty of ram. Essentially the ‘puter is my mailserver and in future will also be my webserver. I have installed MAMP 0.9.4 a few times, each time with the same result. I tried installing to /Applications/mamp-0.9.4 and to /opt/mamp-0.9.4, both using the gui installer. I also tried to install as root from the terminal, but I could not get that to work at all. On every attempt I get an error message at the conclusion of the install that seems to be saying that my admin user has not been correctly created, however, apache and mysql seem to install and both are started by the install program. PHP is not installed/does not work. Where do I start to try and analyse what has actually installed and what I need to do to fix/finalise the install? TIA for any assistance.

Hi,
Can you upload a screenshot showing the error somewhere? Also, please take a look into the contents of the log file for MySQL, which is created at mysql/data, under your installation folder.
Thanks

I only see the error message when the install completes. I verrrry nearly took a screenshot, but decided the error message would be in the log file, so I can’t immediately send you a screenshot. But I am thinking of reinstalling it (again), so I will make sure I get a screenshot and I will post it here. I won’t get a chance to do that till the weekend. Thanks for the location of the mysql logfile, I will have a squiz tomorrow night (off to bed now).

I have now added another hard drive to the setup, formatted all the drives, installed a new copy of os x 10.4 and updated everything to 10.4.11 as of 2/8/08. I then did a new install to /opt/mamp-0.9.4, using the gui installer. Got the same error which I have kept, but I can’t see how to upload it to this forum. I checked the error log for apache2, there is not much in it. I have successfully restarted apache and mysql, but php still does not seem to be working. thanks again for any help.

Hi,
You can send us the error at beltran (at) bitnami (dot) org. Could you send also the /opt/bitrock_installer*.log file which is created during the installation? This file is very helpful to determine the cause of the error. Thanks.

will do beltran subsequent to my last post I thought that the error might be because I did not reinstall the developer tools on the mamp ‘puter, so I tried installing to another server with the developer tools install, but I still got the same error. So… I tried installing the 1.0-beta-1 version on both the mamp server and the other server, and, made sure that I had installed the developer tools on both as well. the 1.0-beta-1 version installed without any issues on both servers. Now just one last thing to work out, what is the password for phpmyadmin? I assumed it would be the mysql password, but its not, so I am stuck and can’t open phpmyadmin!
